05/11/2025Oxfordshire Recovery College Introduce Self Compassion Skills
The Oxfordshire Recovery College is part of the Restore family, and offers free mental health and well-being courses to the community. Recently the college introduced a new four week course about Self Compassion Skills.
Students explored what compassion is and what can get in the way. It can be really difficult to be kind to ourselves when we are struggling with our mental health. The group considered how to understand and balance emotions, and worked together on practical skills such as grounding, breathing exercises, and developing compassionate voice and imagery.
This course was co-produced as a research project in collaboration with the University of Oxford, and some sessions included the lovely therapy dog, Lola (pictured).

“This course really makes you look inwards, I have learned so much about myself during this course.” (Student attendee)
A remarkable 100% of attendees said in feedback that they found the course very useful for their mental health.
“The teaching was really good – very well informed, empathetic and responsive to learners’ needs. I would highly recommend”. (Student attendee)
The course will run again next term; anyone enrolled with the Oxfordshire Recovery College can sign up when dates are released in December.
