A psychologist called Milton Erickson once advised a patient struggling with depression to look at chimney pots. It wasn’t just about distraction - it was about taking small steps towards transformation.
Looking upwards changes our posture, our breathing, and even our mood. It is a small change that can shift our focus, breaking a pattern of looking downwards (consistent with cycles of negative thought) and opening us up to new possibilities.

Everyday Restore sees how incremental changes can make a real difference. A small shift - whether in perspective, routine, or support - can be the first step toward healing.
People can attend courses at Oxfordshire Recovery College to learn new techniques and discover tips from other people with similar experiences. Also at Restore, people can commit to attending recovery groups a day a week to rebuild routine, become a part of a small group who develop interactions, build skills and grown in confidence. In parallel, Restore coaching helps people to shape their goals and progress.
Much like looking up at chimneys, small changes - like seeing other people, getting outside, and working on positive projects - can greatly support recovery and well-being.
