07/10/2019Oxfordshire Recovery College Straw Bale Grand Opening
On September 11th Oxfordshire Recovery College celebrated the Grand Opening of its new home in the Straw Bale Building. Lots of students, tutors, friends and supporters enjoyed a buffet party in the sunshine, and we were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Craig Simmons, and Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds, as well as representatives from the Universities and our partner organisations.
Three Recovery College students spoke very eloquently about what the Recovery College means to them. Young performer Daniel Fields took to the stage to deliver some feel-good music for the crowd, and then the Lord Mayor declared the building open by cutting a cake created to look like the Straw Bale.
A phenomenal cake made especially for the Grand Opening
Stephanie Byrne, Head of the Oxfordshire Recovery College said ‘The Straw Bale is looking great – it’s been freshly painted, has a new ramp for wheelchair access, and we now have a cosy kitchen corner with lending library. We’re very excited about the term ahead which starts Monday 16th September with a drop-in craft workshop and drop-in yoga workshop on Tuesday. We have courses on a range of subjects around mental health and wellbeing running up until Christmas.’
We also have a new video to share about our work, beautifully filmed at Elder Stubbs and featuring stories from our students – if you have 4 minutes take a look, you won’t regret it!’
