09/05/2024James’ recovery story: “I can be me”
Thanks to your ongoing support, Restore helps over 500 local people towards recovery from mental ill health each year. One of these individuals is James, today James shares his story towards a brighter future where he can be his authentic self.
James says: “For me Restore is all about empowerment through occupational therapy… Coming to Restore enables me to look upwards and outwards.”
James joined Restore’s Fleet Meadow recovery group in Didcot over a year ago. Here individuals engage in therapeutic programmes of art, crafts, woodwork and horticulture at the two-acre allotment site.
“Restore offers a safe space where there is support available but there’s also no judgement, which means that I can be me and don’t have to wear a mask which can be very tiring.” says James.
In the last year, 86% of members said that they felt well supported and empowered.
“I think it’s important for people not to say ‘I’m not bad enough’ and rather self-refer and let the staff at Restore work with you to help you on your recovery journey”says James.
It takes courage to share personal stories of mental ill health. Experiences like James’ help to explain how Restore walks alongside individuals, supporting adults to take steps towards new beginnings.
Restore supports individuals across all corners of Oxfordshire, from Didcot to Banbury.
