Restore’s own unsung Garden Hero: our volunteer Sue Brown in the spotlight

We’re so proud of our Restore volunteers. Their dedication and commitment inspires us every day.

For that reason, we couldn’t be more delighted to share that Sue Brown, who’s been volunteering at our Beehive Project for over ten years, has been given a special mention by UK wide journal, ‘Gardens Illustrated.’ The journal was on the lookout for ‘garden heroes,’ people who are using gardening and horticulture to better people’s lives, and loved hearing about Sue’s long standing volunteering relationship with Restore.

They were inspired to learn that Restore uses horticulture as a means to help people with mental ill-health take control of their recovery, develop skills, and lead meaningful lives.

Our Restore staff member, Laurent, told them Sue’s story:

“She comes regularly to help us out in the garden to make it as welcoming, beautiful for our members, the staff and the public as possible. Come rain or shine, hot or cold, she will be out looking after one of the borders, doing some weeding, pruning, helping plan the current and next gardening season. She does so with plenty of energy, panache and a little cheekiness. We all love her to bits as she puts so much of herself into the garden helping to improve or maintain everyone’s wellbeing.”
