We’re very proud of our Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructors, Liz Pierpoint and Julie Field, who have been recognised for their fantastic work at the 2015 National MHFA Awards. Read more in the Oxford Mail.
Both Julie and Liz were nominated for the Standard MHFA category, and Julie went on to be the overall winner. They attended the award ceremony at the House of Lords on 25th February 2015. They are pictured here with Lord Patel.
Martin Realey, CEO of Restore, said, “I am truly delighted that the persistent hard work and determination of another two members of our team is being acknowledged at such a level. Restore continue to strive towards a time when people with mental health problems are fully empowered to live meaningful lives. Julie and Liz work immensely hard to ensure attendees get the very most from our courses. This raises awareness of mental health, symptoms and how one can help in an emergency. We’re very proud of this notable achievement.”
Restore trained 226 people in MHFA in Oxfordshire over the past year, and 1,373 people since the organisation started running the course in 2008.
This is the fifth year that MHFA England has celebrated the people who contribute to making MHFA such a growing force within England.
MHFA was introduced to England in 2006 and has since trained 85,000 people in mental health life-saving skills. Much like physical first aid, MHFA is designed to equip people with the knowledge and confidence to spot the signs and symptoms of someone in distress and offer help on a first aid basis.
Mental ill health affects 1 in 4 people in the UK and is often not disclosed due to the stigma that continues to be attached to it. MHFA breaks down the barriers that prevent people from seeking help and gives people the ability to assist someone who is experiencing mental distress.
