07/06/2013Volunteers’ Week: THANK YOU to all our volunteers
1-7 June is Volunteers’ Week and to mark it Restore wants to say a massive THANK YOU to all our volunteers who contribute so much to the organisation.
From providing a warm welcome on reception to supporting people with their recovery to serving coffees in the café to teaching people how to do mosaics, our volunteers perform all kinds of roles.
We could not function without their generous contribution of time, experience and skills. To each of you we would like to say ‘thank you’.
On 31st May Restore signed the new Oxfordshire Valuing Volunteers Charter, showing our commitment to good practice in the management of volunteers.
The principles for the Oxfordshire Valuing Volunteers Charter have been modelled on the Volunteering England/TUC charter for strengthening relations between paid staff and volunteers.
Lindsay Watts from OCVA’s Volunteer Centre Oxfordshire said: “Oxfordshire has a strong and vibrant volunteer-involving sector. Around a third of the adult population in Oxfordshire volunteers regularly and many more carry out at least one volunteering activity during the course of the year.
“It is important for volunteers to feel supported and valued in their roles and that organisations are given support and resources to effectively manage their volunteers.
“We are asking organisations to sign up to these Charter standards and show their commitment to their volunteers. OCVA and Volunteer Centre Oxfordshire agree to these principles and we hope as many organisations as possible in Oxfordshire do too.”
