A group of 7 staff from local company Vertex Pharmaceuticals based in Abingdon organised and took part in a volunteering day to improve the garden facilities at Restore on 28th September.
The group spent the day preparing the garden around the current polytunnel, taking off the polythene skin and digging a new trench for the new poly tunnel skin to go on.
Member of the Beehive recovery group Andy Jones said: “The team came and dug a trench and stripped the tarpaulin. They dug a trench all the way round and gave a donation for a new tarpaulin, and they brought us a load of cakes.”
Charlotte Attlee, Beehive Recovery group coordinator said: “They very generously offered a volunteering day with seven volunteers spending all day working tirelessly.
She added: “They provided cakes and biscuits and acoustic guitar playing. Thank you Vertex please come again!”
Two of the group members Shakheel Gooroochurn and Jeff Moore from Vertex were so inspired by the day and the Restore cause, that they have started fundraising for us.
Mr Moore completed the Great South Run in Portsmouth and raised £550 from co-workers at Vertex and family supporters. He has generously said he will match the amount.
Mr Moore said, ‘I really admire and value the work of Restore and would like to be more involved. Work commitments prevent me from working regularly as a volunteer but I can promote the work you do.’
