FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Recovery Group?

A safe therapeutic space to rebuild confidence and connections with others, whilst also learning new skills and strategies to help manage your mental health.

What's the process?

After a referral is made, we’ll have a conversation with you, then meet to talk through suitability, expectations and making a plan.

When do people attend the group?

Members typically attend a recovery group one day per week, for a maximum of two years.

What is a typical day?

In a morning meeting we discuss the day's activities and share information.

This is followed by a group activity of your choice before a mid-morning tea break.

Lunch is prepared together followed by communal activities.

An end of day meeting provides the opportunity to check-in with members before they leave for the day.

What's the point?

Recovery groups recreate structure and connections with others. Gently helping people to be a part of something bigger.

New skills are learnt and goals are identified that people can work towards. Every member is allocated a key worker to help them plan for the future, and can also receive one-to-one coaching from a dedicated Restore coach.

Working on projects, seeing good outcomes, and being with others, helps people to rebuild their lives after experiencing mental ill health.

Members are better able to look forward to the future with confidence, and are equipped with the strategies they need to manage their mental health. People frequently leave Restore and move on to jobs, volunteering or training.

"I've been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for ten years but the last year I've been at restore, I’ve not been sectioned once. I think that says a lot."

WHAT IS THE JOURNEY THROUGH RESTORE?

People are referred to Restore (by themselves or someone else). Restore will contact a person's GP and any mental health experts working with them. After assessment with Restore's team, individuals are invited to a taster day before becoming a fully fledged 'member'. Members can attend groups and/or receive one-to-one coaching support. Members typically engage with Restore for five or more coaching sessions, or six to 24 months attending a group.

START A REFERRAL

The first step is to complete the referral form. This will lead to an assessment conversation with a friendly member of the team.
